Introduction
I recently had the opportunity to partner with Lumix to test out their S5 2X camera. In this blog post, I will be sharing my experience from three creative concept shoots in different locations to showcase the capabilities of the camera. From shooting in open gate to tight spaces, testing stabilization, playing with frame rates, to coloring with prores footage in low light, I will cover it all. Let’s dive into the details of each shoot and my overall thoughts on using the Lumix S5 2X.
First Shoot: Corner Store
For our first shoot, we set up outside a corner store with a small team, aiming for a handheld, edgy vibe. Shooting at night in 25 frames per second allowed us to test the low-light capabilities of the camera while using prores. Despite the freezing weather, we pushed through to capture some cool shots and experiment with the camera’s features, including stabilization and color rendering.
Second Shoot: Bathroom Scene
The second scene took place in a tiny bathroom, where we played with lighting to create a moody, Euphoria-inspired look. By shooting in open gate, we maximized the camera’s sensor capabilities, providing more room for reframing in post-production. Experimentation was key in this shoot, where we embraced the tight space to capture unique shots using a 50mm f1.4 lens and manual focus for added control.
Third Shoot: Loft with Bright Windows
Our final scene unfolded in a loft with large windows, where we showcased different frame rates and tested stabilization with and without a gimbal. By utilizing open gate and a DJI RS3 Pro gimbal, we explored various shot compositions and movements. The camera’s versatility in recording options, including slow-motion capabilities, impressed us as we danced between different shooting modes and techniques.
